The European project INCIRCLE, having entered the final stage of its action, presents a series of booklets that have been created, which combine theoretical knowledge and practical applications of circular economy and sustainable development in five pilot regions of the project, in order to further disseminate circular tourism.

The booklets fall into two categories, those aimed at local businesses, and those aimed at the tourism public.

What is circular tourism?

It may be a familiar term for scientists and experts actively involved in sustainability projects, but for tourism professionals, local SME owners and a large part of the general population the concepts of “circular tourism”, “circular economy” and “sustainable development” are not fully clear.

Within the INCIRCLE booklets, a comprehensive explanation of these terms has been introduced in order to get every reader familiar with them and to provide a better understanding of the mission and activities carried out within the project.

Booklets for local businesses:

The booklets are addressed to local businesses in Rethymno (Greece), Larnaca (Cyprus), Gozo (Malta), Palma (Spain) and Himara (Albania) and have been produced in local languages.

The booklets include 3 parts. An introduction on the main objectives of the project, a detailed presentation of each area with the activities implemented in order to comply with the principles of the circular economy, and a call to action.

This kind of booklets aims to attract local businesses to adopt the solutions developed by the project in their practices.

Booklets for tourists:

The booklets are addressed to tourists in Rethymno (Greece), Larnaca (Cyprus), Gozo (Malta), Palma (Spain) and Himara (Albania) and have been produced in local languages.

This type of booklets aims to familiarise tourists with sustainable tourism and the principles of the circular economy. The booklets promote the actions of cities in the fields of sustainable development, presenting their achievements in the framework of the INCIRCLE project and other national and European projects.

The INCIRCLE footprint

Through the progress of the project and the tools being developed, more and more vulnerable regions in the Mediterranean – and beyond – will be able to measure, assess and improve their current sustainability situation, implementing strategies and plans that can address the challenges posed by massive seasonal tourism flows.
