Circular Tourism Strategy for the Islands of Attica Region (summary)
This synthetic summary is a deliverable of the project INCIRCLE funded by INTERREG MED, aiming to support tourist destinations characterized by insularity and/or low population density in order to address the environmental challenges created or intensified by tourism, through circular economy practices. The main objective of INCIRCLE is to move towards a tourism development model that ensures the circular management of all types of resources: natural resources (water, air, natural environment, land resource), landscape, cultural heritage - in a way that contributes to improving the identity and attractiveness of the beneficiary destination. The INCIRCLE project focused on 4 pillars (mobility, energy, waste, water resources), which it examined in the direction of saving and sustainable management through circular practices. The present work was part of the last phase of this 3-year project, during which 6 destinations from Mediterranean regions (replicating territories), selected following an open call of the project (in September 2021), were invited to replicate the methodology formulated during the 2019-2021 project period, with the help of specialised technical consultants. The beneficiary destination for this deliverable is the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands of the Region of Attica, supported by the Technical Partner of the project CIVINET Greece-Cyprus AMKE.
