CIVITAS Network
CIVITAS is a network of cities dedicated to sustainable urban mobility in Europe and beyond. CIVITAS works in continuous support and cooperation with the European Commission, reinforcing its ambitious goals for mobility and transports in Europe.
Since its launch in 2002, the CIVITAS Initiative actively contributes to research and innovation of sustainable mobility. In cooperation with the cities – members of the Network have been tested and implemented over 800 measures and urban transport solutions as part of demonstration projects in more than 80 Living Lab cities Europe-wide, improving the quality of life of the citizens.
The aim of the Network is to make the vision of sustainable mobility a living reality for everyone.
Become a City – Member
Nearly 70% of EU citizens live in urban areas, where the effects of air and noise pollution generated by transports have a harmful impact on public health.
Considering these, CIVITAS Members:
Fosters political commitment and boosts collective expertise, equipping cities to put mobility at the centre of decarbonisation.
Being a CIVITAS member and active within the community offers a multitude of advantages. More specific:
- The CIVITAS network is an ideal environment to exchange expertise, ideas and best practice with peers. This keeps CIVITAS cities informed of the latest urban mobility innovation and equips them to meet their own local sustainability goals.
- Members can showcase their work on CIVITAS’ multiple channels including the website, social media, and MOVE newsletter. In addition, each member has its own dedicated page and can present at the flagship CIVITAS Forum events.
- Political representatives from CIVITAS cities can join the CIVITAS Policy Advisory Committee. This group of local politicians acts as an advisory board to the CIVITAS Initiative and meets with DG MOVE to give a local perspective on EU mobility policy.
- Members can apply for the CIVITAS Awards. These annual prizes given by the European Commission recognise some of the most daring sustainable urban mobility work in Europe.
