A training trip to Zagreb (Croatia) and Ljubljana (Slovenia) (20-24 March) marked the most important milestone of the CIVINET “Mobility Academy 2023” so far, attended by 15 local authority executives from 5 Greek cities (Heraklion, Hersonissos, Nea Smyrni, Karpenisi, Kozani).
The trip was the 3rd meeting of a six-month experiential self-training programme aimed at international networking, exchanging knowledge, best practices and experiences related to sustainable mobility.
The trip was organized by the CIVINET Greece-Cyprus in cooperation with the CIVINET Slovenia-Croatia-SEE and coincided with the celebrations of the five-year and ten-year anniversary of the two networks. Moreover, it was coordinated with the international conference “Cities for Climate Neutrality“. The training programme was also sponsored by the municipalities of Zagreb and Ljubljana.
Municipal officials and politicians had the opportunity to learn from their colleagues about the best practices in the fields of sustainable mobility implemented by these two cities, as well as exchange opinions and experiences. As part of their training, they gained experience from the tram and cable car network in Zagreb, the urban renewal projects in Ljubljana, as well as the extensive pedestrianisation of the city centre in Ljubljana, access control systems for motor vehicles, electric buses for people with disabilities, and shared bicycle systems.
It is our hope that this experience may serve as an inspiration and contribute to the design and implementation of similar good practices in more Greek cities!
