The islands of the Region of Attica become part of the Circle

The European project InCircle (support Insular and low density areas in the transition towards a more CIRCuLar tourism Economy), after two years of activity, incorporates 6 additional areas in its portfolio. The main mission of the project is to design a more sustainable future for the insular and low-populated tourist areas of the Mediterranean, having so far completed pilot applications of good practices and Spatial Strategies for Circular Tourism in 5 different countries (Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Albania, Malta).

Attica Region together with 8 Greek Island Municipalities (Agistri, Aegina, Kythira, Poros, Salamina, Spetses, Troizinia-Methana, Hydra) are launching a cooperation with the CIVINET Greece-Cyprus Network, within the framework of InCircle, in order to develop a Spatial Strategy for Circular Tourism for the Regional Unit of the Attica Islands.


The Region of Attica was selected first amongst 14 nominations from four different Mediterranean countries!


 

The 6 successful candidates are:

  1. Regional Unit of Attica Islands (Greece)
  2. Split and Dalmatia County Tourist Board (Croatia)
  3. Delta de l’ Ebre National Park (Spain)
  4. Terra Barocca Local Action Group (Italy)
  5. Development Agency of the Province of Begueda (Spain)
  6. Oltrepò Mantovano Consortium (Italy)

CIVINET Greece-Cyprus Network

All the local authorities from Greece and Cyprus (Rethymno, Larnaca, Region of Crete) participating in the InCircle project are members of the CIVINET Greece-Cyprus network, which is the official Greek-speaking branch of the European network CIVITAS.

In the framework of InCircle, CIVINET Greece-Cyprus serves as Technical Support for the Greek-speaking Local Authorities (LAs) and Communication Manager of the project, responsible for the extroversion and publicity of all partners activities.
